Hello, and welcome to GPTV on Tuesday, the 6th of October - my name is Philip
Kingston...

Gary Peer 00:15
and I'm Gary Peer.

Phillip Kingston 00:17
Gary, the world has got back to some semblance of normal and when I say the world, of
course, I'm referring to the real estate world. Great to be seven days into actually showing
real people through real houses.

Gary Peer 00:32
It's a very new experience Phil, seems so long ago since we could actually take someone
physically into a property - with all of the PPE gear and everything else, but nice to be on
the show. And after a lot of people around looking at properties at the moment Phil. Some
of our inspections, very busy. Of course, I mean, private one on one inspections. A lot of
people around - a bit of a buzz in the market, Phil?

Phillip Kingston 00:56
Well, Gary, I showed a client through a house on Saturday, and I was so emotional and
actually physically being in a house and physically seeing another person, I went over to
give them a hug. And then of course, they stepped back. And I realised that was an
absolute no no. So as excited as we might be hugging is still off the real estate agenda.

Gary Peer 01:21
Well look Phil it's been off over a lot of different agendas. If I look at the American
election now, you know, Joe Biden known as a huger, that's gotten him into a bit of trouble
as well, of course. Look, the debate. Let's just talk about the presidential debate. I thought
that debate was inspired by GPTV, I really did. Because it reminded me that when we were
standing next to each other, basically abusing each other. And I think that they just take it
to another level. And I think we should get some royalties for that Phil. Because I reckon
that we inspired that debate.

Phillip Kingston 01:52
There's no question, there's one thing the Americans do really well is that they take
something and then magnify it. Because you know, we've had a lot of feedback from
GPTV viewers over the years about how sometimes the level of intensity of discussion.
They wonder whether you know, we can still be mates at the end of it. But these guys,
were on steroids. And I think Donald Trump has shown his true colours yet again.

Gary Peer 02:19
Well, you haven't called me a clown Phil. And I think it was Biden who did that...

Phillip Kingston 02:23
or you're an idiot!

Gary Peer 02:25
Or an idiot or shut up. Which is good. We haven't gotten to that level yet. So who would
have ever thought that any two men speaking would make GPTV look like a classy show?
But it wasn't an idiot, it was don't say you're smart! Well, of course, neither of us have ever,
knowing our poor grades, have been accused of each other talking about being smart.

Phillip Kingston 02:50
No issue there. Well, look, I've got to tell you watching the American elections and the
campaign, it's like watching... I'm not sure whether it's like watching a slow motion train
wreck or a train wreck on actual fast forward.

Gary Peer 03:06
Whether you support Trump, whether you like him or you hate him - and you know, I have
both views, I like and don't like him. But I tell you one thing. What an irony for him to get
COVID I mean, it's a sad thing. But what an ultimate irony of somebody that actually
openly was dismissive about the, you know, the dangers of it, coping it. So it there's
certainly a lot of irony in that Phil. But yeah, we are living in a crazy world. It's like you say,
It's like watching a movie unfold in front of us. And you wonder in the future generations
have a look back to this period, people will speak about and just shake their heads and
probably never see anything like it again Phil.

Phillip Kingston 03:45
I have a sense that history won't judge this time too kindly. But one of the interesting
things and now this is a serious comment, Gary, because if you think about it, America is
still the number one superpower in the world. I mean, obviously the Chinese are catching
up pretty quickly. But they are the number one superpower in the world. And on top of it,
they've always really been the leading democracy in some ways in the world. The thing
that I was taken by watching the debate was how gentlemanly Australian politics is by
comparison. You know, we have a prime ministerial debate in this country where
everybody agrees on who's going to ask the questions. They agree on what the rules for
the debate are - and then stupidly for Australia, they then follow the rules. So apparently
that they'd spent weeks organising this debate, weeks agreeing on all of the rules, and
then it of course Trump just comes out and goes, "there are no rules. You don't bring a knife
to a gunfight!"

Gary Peer 04:52
Well, I think that we saw, you know, probably maybe Paul Keating time a bit of aggressive
and a bit of abuse. He was pretty good at slinging it out there.

Phillip Kingston 05:01
He was, but he never cut across people in the debates like his speeches were powerful and pretty full on. But you know, in a debate, it was always... I mean, in Australia by
comparison, we are very, very decent, law abiding citizens.

Gary Peer 05:18
I think so. And you see this with Europeans as well, they come here and of course, you
know, even the body language and the confrontation and that fast you know, the way
some people in Europe speak quickly and they're very direct. And you know, we have got
that kind of English gentlemanly way about us in Australia. And combine that with the
relaxed beachside life, I think I like the Australian demeanour. But it's very, very alien to us
to see people going that hard on each other. There's like that massive testosterone, I
mean, you can understand teenagers, but these guys in their 70's. Anyway...

Phillip Kingston 05:54
Can you imagine what that must have been like as teenagers, or Trump at least. But
ultimately, you know, coming back to Australia, we're really quite pathetic and
embarrassing, because keep in mind, this country was founded by convicts. What's wrong
with us. We just given all of our criminal ways away.

Gary Peer 06:13
Even in Victoria, you know, we're following all these rules. And, you know, people are
saying, "Come on, why don't we rise up and be a bit more rebellious against some of the
stuff that's going on?" And people saying "that's not safe", but you know, we'd celebrate
Ned Kelly, one time, didn't we Phil?

Phillip Kingston 06:28
He was running for Prime Minister of this country once!
